During this difficult period of adjusting to the loss of my beloved mother, I have been very stuck in patterns of safety and stability. But last night I was listening to Bo Forbes and Norman Farb. Bo is an innovative and influential yoga therapist in the US, and such a sensitive voice. Norman Farb has written the book Better In Every Sense: How the new science of sensation can help you reclaim your life (ISBN9781399708166)
They were speaking on SENSE FORAGING amongst other aspects. I had ner heard of that term, and worked out after a while that it another way of talking about interoception. This connects with all of the important body of research that has been done over the past decades (by Bessel van Der Kolk amongst others) All the information we need to help us progress is within ourselves if we can only tune in and understand, and integrrate into wise action.
I have been really strruggling with making sense of the incredibly complex and rich relationship i had with my mother, which also contained such a lot of pain and challenge. But i have been trying to understand it rationsally - which has its place - by studying again at the TAVISTOCK and PORTMAN in London. This has certainly helped; however the tapestry of interrwoven sensations within me that correspond to parts of my relationship with her is the most profound gift she has left me. I mourn her life, by connecting to my lived daily reality, and i can take a part of a memory and use it as a way to SENSE FORAGE
